Coloring Steve’s legs

  1. Watch the video to see how it’s done.

  2. Or continue with the Step by Step description.

Step 1: Pants

Now we are going to give Steve some trousers. We will give the legs the material “jeans”. Let’s start with the left leg.

  • Go to Object mode.

  • Select the left leg.

  • Go to the Material tab.

  • Press + to create a new material.

  • Give the material a name for example “jeans”.

  • And select a blue color for the Diffuse.

Do the same for the right leg.

Step 2: The upper part of the pants

Now if you look at a picture of Minecraft Steve you will notice that the torso also contains the upper part of the pants. And sometimes you see Steve’s shirt hang over his jeans. Sometimes it’s on the left. Sometimes on the right.

  • Go to Object mode.

  • Select the torso.

  • Go to Edit mode.

  • Select the lower 2 rows of faces. Leave some faces as the shirt hangs over his jeans. And don’t forget the back and the sides.

    • To model the side it can be handy to rotate the arm.

      • Go back to Object mode.

Step 3: Rolled up trousers

Now you’ll notice that Minecraft Steve has rolled up trousers. These have the same blue-greenish color as Steve’s shirt. To achieve this we again divide the legs in 8 x 8 faces and give the lower row of faces the same material as the t-shirt. Start with the left leg.

  • Go to Object mode.

  • Select the left leg.

  • Go to Edit mode.

  • Make sure the Faces tool is selected.

  • And divide the left leg in 8 x 8 faces.

  • Select the lower row of faces.

  • You might want to rotate the right leg in order to select the faces on the right side of the left leg.

    • Go to Object mode.

    • Rotate the right leg.

    • Go back to Edit mode.

  • If all faces are selected, give these the same color as the t-shirt.
